A Gem of Many Names: The term 'chrysoberyl' originates from the Greek words "chrysos" (gold) and "beryllos" (beryl), reflecting its stunning golden-green hue. While not a type of beryl, its captivating colors earned it this memorable moniker.
The Victorian era saw a resurgence in chrysoberyl's popularity, particularly the cat's eye variety. Queen Victoria herself was known to have a penchant for this gem, enhancing its allure among the aristocracy.
These days, you may be more familiar with Chrysoberyl's colour changing cousin, Alexandrite. Indeed, they are the same mineral!
