Repair & Ring Resizing Pricing Guidelines 

All of our repair pricing is drawn from the industry standard Geller Blue Book jewellery Blue Book, Version 5.0 Release 6.50.  The Blue Book is used by many larger jewellers to ensure their pricing reflects the current cost of materials and labour and to ensure consistency for consumers.  

 

For all repairs and resizing, there is a minimum charge of $95+HST.  Our minimum charge partially covers the time spent documenting and photographing your item in order to prepare an estimate for you.

Unless you are an existing client and/or a resident of Cabbagetown in which case the minimum charge is $85+HST.

If the item you need serviced was made by FTJCo, please book a drop-off at ftjco.com/drop-off.  Rings made by FTJCo include a resizing warranty that allows for one free resize, within the first year of ownership, up or down up to one size. 😀

If your item was not made by FTJCo, please complete the form at the bottom of this page and we'll get back to you.  Some rings, either because of their construction or the gems they use, cannot be safely resize.  Other ones, such those set with more delicate gems such as emeralds, would require the gems to be unset and reset, at additional charge.

Resizing & Repairs

Please note:

We will not resize rings bands where the width is less than 1.5mm or rings that are vermeil or gold filled, which are generally made by fast fashion jewellery brands.

Our workshop rate for 2025 is $175 per hour with labour quoted in 15 minute increments and subject to our current minimum charges.  This does not include parts, materials or services such as plating or engraving should your repair require those things.

Some rings can be sized up to a full size by stretching them; our ability to do this depends upon the condition of the ring, and the number and style of gems it may have.

Please note that gems other than diamonds, sapphires and spinels can crack, break or be otherwise damaged by the temperatures involved in resizing a ring.  In these cases we will unset the center gem before resizing and re-set it after the ring has been sized.  This is an additional charge of $95 for any gem below 0.50 carats and $125 for any gem above that size.  Please note that some rings cannot be resized at all and, should that be the case with your ring, we will explain why this is the case.

FTJCo uses only the European standard for white gold which is alloyed with palladium. By contrast, most North American white gold jewellery contains nickel. This nickel white gold is usually plated with rhodium to make it appear white, as it is naturally a yellow-grey colour. Whenever a plated piece of jewellery is serviced, it usually requires re-plating. The cost of rhodium plating is $125 ($95 if the item was made by FTJCo). Additionally, please note that the prices below do not include the cost of re-applying any specialty finishes to your ring (for example, a satin finish). Specialty finishes will be applied at the current prices shown in the Made to Order section of our site.

For rings made with mixed metals (e.g., Platinum & 18K Gold or 14K & 18K Gold), use the pricing of the higher karat gold. If the ring includes both gold and platinum, use the platinum pricing.

*All prices for sizing rings smaller include a credit for any metal removed from your ring. We do not return metal from repairs or re-sizings. Metals from our manufacturing and repair processes are recycled.

 

Restringing Pearls or other Beaded Necklaces

$150 for a 16" Strand + $20 for each additional inch up to 20" + $10 per inch thereafter.

$85 for any Bracelet 8" or less + $20 for each additional inch

Replacement clasps in 18K gold or platinum will be quoted.
