One of the things we love about the BCORP movement is the opportunity to live our values and commitments in the context of a formalized, audited framework.

So on this page, we're publishing some of our more specific commitments as a BCORP because we believe that public commitments have more accountability than private resolutions.

Local Economic Development

We are commitment to serve at least 75% local and independent clients or customers.

Context: Local sourcing is aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development  (SDG) targets 1.4, 8.5, 9.2, 9.3, and 12.7.   BCORP awards additional points for companies that have a "commitment to purchase core products (at least 50% of non-labor expenses) from independent suppliers local to where the product will be used or where the company operates." However most of FTJCo's purchases/costs are for gems, diamonds and precious metals which are not available locally.  We choose instead to source as close to the country of origin as possible so that the economic value of a country's natural resources stays within the country.  This is an example of where the generalized nature of the BCORP assessment isn't suited to some verticals/use cases.
